While having a link exchange,beware those people who try to manipulate search results,they are trying cheat their link partner which they're link out from the fade site,with fade PR.There are good reasons to do three way links, but these kind of people are not worth linking to.Always check the site you linking to is not a bad neighborhood.
In doesn't matter if a webmaster has 20 or 30 or more secondary sites to exchange links with.Just make sure it's a fair trade and must be relevant to your niche.
Don't accept link farm.
If you're running a blog ,just accept a link request from a blog.Some people will offer php directory link (the url ended with php e.g.http://www.directoryphplinks.com/index.php?c=198) and ask for you to link back to one of their partner sites.It's a 3 way link exchange but In doing this they get links that would get more link juice then you get from them.
How about a blog with a lot of outbound link?Note that most of the time a blog has more link value then PHP directory which generate link using bot and has bunch of link out.Also you should understand that a blog with a lot of outbound link doesn't mean it's a link farm.it could be a list content blog and it shouldn't be consider as a link farm .Search engine love freah content links provide it's relevant.How to you know it's bot generated link directory?It's easy to tell since 90% php link exchange directory running the same scripts.
They do not mind linking out to from those crapy sites because they can have those directory set up with very minimum of time and no content is needed.
I have recently come across more and more directories try to sell their link to make money once they gain some PR .Mostly a high margin pharmacy and debt type websites will buy it.
Building Link Moral
If you are trading links with a sites which contains bunch of outbound link included those gambling site etc. and your site is about losing weight,it's wont give you much link juice,it is not a fair trade.
Lastly never forget other sites will be suspicious of you and will not trade links with you too,try not to think how good your blog is and ignore those low profile blogger.They're perhaps ten times better then you trade link with those high PR internet marketer .
They're link partner.
ps:Due to fact that i don't like those PHP directory,i create a blog directory which 100% human edited,and the outbound link is 0.01% of those 11k outbound link directory.!!!
